ECO2CHILL
The challenge
In tropical developing countries where average temperature goes above 40ºC, having an air conditioner becomes a necessity than a luxury. Yet there are more than 90% of people who either don't have access to or cannot afford a conventional A/C. Conventional A/Cs are more energy consuming, expensive and emit a significant amount of greenhouse gases. According to IEA, the energy consumption and emissions due to HVAC is estimated to increase by a significant amount by 2050. In fact, as per an analysis carried out by the University of California-Berkeley National Laboratory in 2015, it was found that if A/C efficiency was improved by 30% globally by 2030, it would reduce peak electricity demand by the equivalent of the annual output of 710 mid-sized coal-power plants.
The solution
Our solution is ECOnCHILL- an eco-friendly, innovative air conditioner accessible to low-income groups of the tropical developing countries like India and Africa.
